Geoff Nelson, MA, LPC

I’m the kind of guy that sees value, promise and hope in things that most others would be inclined to disquote closemiss or overlook.

I’ll pick up a penny on the sidewalk or an old bucket alongside the road. I guess I see value in things others will just overlook, and quite honestly that’s what I do when I counsel people as well. Relationships get messy and there is lots of junk floating around. I find value in the mess and the junk. It becomes the fabric of therapy. All I ask is that you have a little hope. It dosen’t take much effort to make a big difference in your life and the lives of those around you. I believe in people and they tend to respond.

Geoff has a Master of Arts degree in counseling and is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Colorado.

One of the most unique and interesting aspects of Geoff’s counseling approach is that he often uses movie clips as illustrations or to deeply connect with clients’ personal histories and experiences.

Geoff has supervised and trained hundreds of Denver-area counselors through their graduate program internships and through post-graduate state licensure. He’s worked with many Front Range counselor education institutions including CU Denver, Denver Seminary and Colorado Christian University.

Geoff was previously director of The Care Center @ Crossroads in Wheat Ridge and he prior to that he founded, operated, and later sold, a wildly successful Denver family counseling agency providing in-home therapy for families in extreme crisis.

Geoff has undergone intensive training with Heather Forbes and is a certified instructor with Beyond Consequences Institute LLC, whose purpose is to help children with severe acting out behaviors. Heather is co-author of the book, Beyond Consequences, Logic and Control. Her ground-breaking approach has proven effective with some of the most challenging behaviors where traditional fear-based and child-blaming techniques have failed. Beyond Consequences Institute’s mission statement is “To provide every child the opportunity to be parented out of love, ending the myth that a child can only respond and bond to a parent through fear-based parenting.”

"The most important marriage skill is listening to your partner in a way that they can't possibly doubt that you love them. --"  Diane Sollee

" When unconditional love is put into action, it truly is the 'cure' to creating peace in the home. It simply takes learning how to put it into action. Traditional parenting techniques are fraught with fear, disguised as love. Shifting your perspective to allow the light of love to overcome the darkness of fear is the only way.--" Heather Forbes
